I headed down to the Great Notts Show this morning, dragging my lovely housemate with me for a long walk, with the bribe of tea and lunch. The streets are closed for the Robin Hood Half Marathon, and it gave the centre of town a nice peaceful quiet with none of the traffic.
There’s loads on offer, and it’s packed together in the Market Square – head down if you have time as its open until late tonight.

A delicious range of homemade cakes are on offer, as well as piping hot tea and coffee, a huge winner with my housemate.
The Fudge Factory
There are so many flavours to choose from here, from Vimto to Skittles, Daim Bar to Snickers, to the more unusual of Red Bull and Jäger Meister. The thing I loved most about this fudge stall was that the fudge was prepackaged in to small plastic containers. It meant the fudge I bought was intact on the walk home, not squashed in a paper bag at the bottom of my bag. It’s more hygienic too. Bloody amazing flavours too.
MarRon Liqueurs produce a range of spirits and spirit based drinks, made by infusing quality Vodka, Gin or Rum with a variety of natural botanicals. On offer was everything from Floral Liqueurs such as violet, rose and lavendar to chocolate based ginger, orange and mint. These would make great Christmas pressies at £6 for a 25cl bottle. When you buy a bottle, you also get a list showing you what you can do with it. I bought the ginger chocolate liqueur that is apparently great over ice, with prosecco, with cream, in coffee, in hot chocolate, as a winter warmer, in cakes and also in cocktails. So a really versatile, tasty treat.
I’m so happy to see these guys back in Nottingham. After buying some of their pork and leek sausages at Wollaton Park food festival a few weeks ago, I kicked myself for not buying more. Unfortunately they didn’t bring these to the Great Notts Show, but they did have a plethora of other flavours on offer. I bought some Marmite, Ginger and spring onion, honey and mustard, and fennel and lemon sausages. They have tasters of all their creations to try before you buy. Great idea as I wouldn’t have chosen the marmite or the fennel before trying. Can’t wait to see them again, hopefully they have the leek ones back soon!
Simply Duck
These guys don’t have a Facebook or Twitter (I asked) but look out for them at a food festival near you. Their duck wrap was HUGE, and so filling. Moist pieces of duck, crisp cucumber and Spring onion, loads of hoisin sauce, all wrapped up in a tortilla. Perfect, and great value at £6.
My housemate (who is French) went straight for this place for lunch. It’s amazing to me how quickly this lady made them, and how even they cooked. Yes, I know this is her speciality, but for someone who has tried and failed multiple times it still astounds me. The crepe was loaded with cheese and ham, and my housemate had a massive grin on her face for the duration of eating this! For £3.50 it was great value and really filling.
This is a fab free festival in the centre of Notingham, with live music, a great number of street food stalls, a bar in a big red Routemaster bus, and loads of other smaller stalls to take your fancy. Head down!
