Hide Burger Bar – Derby

Meeting an old colleague for dinner in Derby on Friday night was stressful. Neither of us are au fait with the area so a quick jump onto trip advisor bought up Hide Burger Bar. Coming in 12th it seemed like a good shout, and as we headed there I realised I had eaten a really rushed meal here a few months ago (I was late for the Theatre), so was excited to go back at a more leisurely pace.

The outside of the building is gorgeous, based in the old Magistrates offices, and inside the walls are painted white with some really cool decorations adorning the walls.

My favourite decoration was the light box, stipulating what should be going on in the restaurant. My friend and I ticked two of the 3, as we were driving unfortunately Beer wasn’t on the menu.

The specials board is a roll of brown paper hung on the wall and looks so cool! They change daily so there is always something new to try

The menu is small but perfectly formed. All the beef is 100% freshly ground Derbyshire beef, using the fore quarter of animal, otherwise known as chuck steak. This part of the cow yields some of the most flavourful beef.

I went for the chicken burger. Marinated chicken breast, mango and pineapple salsa, rum glazed streaky bacon, coriander and lime Mayo, holy cow ketchup, gem lettuce and a bun.

It was amazing. The chicken was so juicy, the mango and pineapple salsa was like a burst of summer in my mouth, the bacon was crispy and sweet and salty, and the coriander and lime Mayo gave a citrus kick that was really refreshing. Everything worked so well together. There was a little much maI scraped it off, but then used it for my chips which were hot, salty and perfectly cooked. For £10.50 it was so reasonably priced.

My friend went for the Smoky burger, a 6oz beef patty,  smoky onions, smoked garlic cheddar, bourbon glazed streaky bacon, crispy onions, moo-stard, smoky moo Mayo, gem lettuce, pickles and a bun. He said he loved it, and it was gone in a flash, as was mine.

We were offered the dessert menu but the burgers were huge so we couldn’t fit any more in, although I was tempted with the Oreo brownie sundae and will definitely revisit for this!

The staff were smiley and lovely, squeezing us in when we hadn’t booked, and within 15 minutes of us arriving it was full of people straight from work. The atmosphere was lovely and vibrant and I would strongly urge you to book ahead and visit.
