I bloody love Revolucion De Cuba. Where else can you be casually having a cocktail on a Saturday night and bump in to a lady dressed like an exquisite carnival queen?

Revolucion De Cuba is located at 26-28 Market Street, round the corner from the Theatre Royal. The huge building is entered through a door and up a few steps. Turn right and you’ll enter the main bar and restaurant. Continue up the huge stone staircase and you will come to two smaller bars. All are decorated in a very Cuban style.

The focal point of downstairs is definitely the huge bar that runs along one length of the bar.

The restaurant is so light and airy with high ceilings and a beautiful turquoise on the walls.

There’s also a little snug area around the back of the bar with large Chesterfield sofas you can relax on.

I’ve never seen the full extent of the decor upstairs as it’s always packed to the rafters when I’m there on a Saturday night.

Anyway, I was invited down to try the new menu, however the first thing my friend Kristian and I spied was the taco offer. A party board of 12 soft shell tacos for £15. You can choose between 4 flavours, in multiples of 3s.

The choices are:

Pulled pork, pineapple and hot salsa

Halloumi, butternut squash, courgette and chilli jam

Crispy calamari, coriander and pickled chilli

Cheeseburger with manchego cheese

The squid tacos

The pulled pork tacos

The halloumi tacos

We didn’t go for the cheeseburger ones as I can’t eat cheese, so we opted for the other three, with a double helping of the pork tacos.

The pulled pork tacos were the ones I was looking forward to most and they were fab. However for me the winners were the crispy squid. These were totally unexpectedly amazing. Kristian really enjoyed the halloumi too.

We also went for a portion of padron peppers. These are one of my favourite tapas dishes. Kristian didn’t like them but I thought they were very tasty. It suited me that he wasn’t keen as it meant I ate more than my fair share. Chargrilled and covered in salt they were fab.

I really wish we had tried more of the menu, but the tacos and peppers were definitely enough for two people at lunch time. Revolucion De Cuba do tasty food extremely well. Wait times for lunchtime were about 15 minutes which I thought was really good. The staff are friendly and knowledgable about the food (needing to know which items have dairy in can sometimes involve people running to the kitchen to check) but the waitress we had knew the full menu. The restaurant and bar are lovely and there’s always a calm, fun atmosphere. The toilets are super clean at any time of the night. I bloody love this place!
